Macbook pro external monitor wavy problem with mini displayport to vga

How'd your resolve this problem I'm having this exact same problem with the exact same monitor?

if the macbook cant support those high resolutions, then why bother putting the options for it there?

because i don't think the macbooks graphics processor supports 1600x1280.
stick to 1280x800 thats the native rez on the basic macbooks. i think macbook pro goes up to 1400x1050 or something like that...

Well, damn. I'm having the exact same problem with my new MacBook Pro (on an 24" HP external monitor connected via a DisplayPort=>VGA adapter...)
