@TheLordBarker if he could get a hang drum in the first place, he must not be that desperate for money

-
Yes, is it!

But, once they figure out the exact shape and dimensions of a hang drum, wouldn't they just feed it into a computer to make a die, and then stamp sheets of metal repeatedly into the right shape? How hard is that?

haha
weird instrument man...
I pray everyday that hang's will be easily available one day for fair money, so that I won't be poor after buying and have to spend my sparetime playing for money like this poor weird instrument guy here...

Too bad for that though. This could take off in price but the makers and patent holders of this are complete hippies and don't want it to hit "mass market". That what happens when there's lack of business. I looked into being a dealer for this thing.

It takes only a few days to make this.

it really is...it's not just expensive, it is very ahrd to get one, you have to go to a meeting in europe, and choose it.
-
It's called work hours. They take a long time to make, and at this point in time they're all hand made. To put one bend in metal to make it have a different pitch from the rest of the metal is hard enough let alone having multiple notes all perfectly pitched relative to each other. I can't imagine that it'd take any shorter than a month to make one.

It also looks like you could stir-fry your rice in it once you finished playing it...

It's a hang drum. It costs about $2000. It is manufactured much like a Jamaican steel drum: a round surface flattened into flat parts of different sizes producing just the right notes. But a Jamaican steel drum is concave whereas this is convex, mounted on another round steel piece. So a hang drum is really like the "underside" of a Jamaican steel drum. It works because it doesn't matter if you whack the underside of a Jamaican steel drum, it sounds the same as if you whacked the top side.
I have no idea.
