On January 12, 2011, I flew my Robinson R44 helicopter from Deer Valley Airport in north Phoenix, AZ to Page Municipal Airport on the shores of Lake Powell. This video compresses that 2-hour flight into 8 minutes.

As you watch this video, remember that it was all shot on one day during a 2-hour period. I traveled from the Sonoran desert of Phoenix up to the snow-covered alpine forests near Flagstaff and then through the western side of the massive Navajo Indian reservation all the way to Page, AZ. The total distance covered was roughly 200 NM and it was pretty much a straight line trip.

All video shot with an onboard GoPro Hero HD camera, hard mounted in position for the flight.

  • Maria. The video of your flight was absolutely beautiful from every angle, climate change, elevation, sky, desert, lighting etc. etc. I am searching for a very small camera for my small cockpit (Bushby Mustang ll) for flying I do here on Vancouver Island Canada. Go-Pro or Contur??? In any case, I just wanted you to know what a beautiful video you put together.

  • @cgaif Thanks very much. It's a GoPro Hero. I shot at 720p; when I shoot 1080p, I get too much vibration in the shots.

  • Pretty darn nice there Mari, amazing what one can find (see) in an area like what you fly in. This reminds me of the Banks lake, Dry falls, Grand coulee area here in Wa. Totally Spectacular. Can you imagine what it would take to hike that?

  • @RVFR2 Thanks very much. It's a lot like the Banks Lake area. I fly there in the summertime, so I know it well. That rock is black, this rock is red. Otherwise, so similar.

  • Fantastic video Maria! I have linked it on a couple of the gold prospecting forums to RAVE reviews! I hope it brings you many, many bookings! - Terry

  • @MrTerrySoloman Thanks, Terry! Glad you liked it!

  • Beautiful video!! How / where did you mount the GoPro on the R44? I just got one and I'd like to know the best and most secure way to mount it outside.

  • Is that camera mounted on the inside of the R44? Great video!

  • @RVFR2 I know that area and this reminds me of that, too. The difference is the rock color mostly: there's a lot of red rocks here while most of the rocks in WA are black or gray. No, I can't imagine hiking it.
