Does anybody know or know of anyone named Tadman? I'll much appreciate it if I can be put in touch!
Used to live in Milton Malzor, nr. Northampton, and attended the Northampton College of Technology then, but moved on to the University of Leeds, West Yorks.

No mention of the 50 pence pakki though - she's a legend!

The problem is nationwide, I'm afraid. If you were a Pole, and you knew you could earn 8 times the wages you earned in Poland, wouldn't you move here too? It's the price we pay for a 'Free Europe', whatever that means :-)

There used to be a place called Peacock way near here. I worked there in the 80s in the shoe repairers. Coles of Northampton shoe repairers . The Coles's family are so kind to there staff , and give customers the best job they can get.
I also worked for J. Sweet [ used to be opposite the fish market ] , and also had a coat stall on the market square - but that was when i was a kid [ part time]. Northampton is a great place but I am now settled in Malvern.

@LASTINLIVE I remember Peacock Way, and the shoe repairers. Its replacement may be more flashy and modern, but always seems empty to me. These vids were made in the 90s, and seem dated even now. Northampton's a different place these days. I rarely visit the town centre. Besides, I don't speak Polish.
Malvern is a pretty town, a snapshot of a bygone era, and the hills are great for dog walking and incredible views. I've been a few times, 'cos my partner's from there.

@katweg24 Hi Kat. I'm sorry I don't know anything remarkable about 14 Market Square, but it's certainly a fine building. That shop has housed a photographers for around 30 years that I know of, and probably before. However, all that side of the Drapery was once known as The Glovery, so it's entirely possible that your shop made and sold gloves, whilst the upper rooms may have held moneylenders or tailors.

@RobNorthampton The entire town centre was rebuilt around the market square after the Great Fire of Northampton in 1675, when 600 buildings were destroyed. Many of the buildings will have been knocked down and rebuilt at different times by different owners, which is why the town centre has so many different looking stone and brick buildings, but they all add to its character. The Glovery itself goes back to at least the thirteenth century, as shown by an anciant deed wich proclaims: (cont)
