  • I hear a loud clunk in the back of my car whenever I start it up and put it into reverse, also when I'm switching from reverse into drive. After my car get's into second gear there is a slighter clunk, and afterwards it switches gears fine. I thought I had a bad u-joint so I lubricated them all and twisted the driveshaft, the u-joints are good. I had a mechanic conform that. He looked at my vehicle and noticed the tranny mount is bad. He said that may be the cause, what do you think?

  • @suddnstar sure, lots of things can clunk, including bad mounts. If it's obviously broken and cracked, change it.

  • how else you can tell a bad u-joint is when you put it into drive from reverse and makes clunking noises.

  • @darkertree just follow my advice here by jacking it up and pulling on the shaft. If the shaft joints are solid, then the tranny or rear end causes clunks

  • What if my truck makes a loud clunk a second after I turn it on?

  • @ylua808 depends where the clunk is, but often broken motor or tranny mount. Scotty

  • You should do "How to replace axle shaft U-joints"

  • I went over a speed bump in my peugeot 306 and it sheered off the studs that hold in the engine mount, I kept hearing a clunking sound when I was driving and my exhaust was blowing. Got an engine mount , I think that my off side draft shaft is damage as well
