The morning of Clairas birthday was not bright and sunny. The rain pounded down hard, and the sky gloomed above everybody. Kevin hummed along to the radio as he was driving to the place where Claira would receive her birthday present in only a few hours. Serena was in the passenger seat with Ally, Claira and Nick crammed in the back of his Tahoe Hybrid. Joe was originally going to come with the group, but since this place was so hard to find, he volunteered to pickup Claira and drive her there. God knows how well Claira will like that.

Joe knew that this was probably his only opportunity to apologize properly to Claira. The only problem was, if this didnt work out he would ruin her birthday and she might not even accept that, and he couldn't have that. He decided that he wouldnt bring up the incident, but if Claira initiated the conversation first, he would proceed to tell her how sorry he was.

Joe drove to Clairas house about an hour after the rest of the group had left. He found himself drumming his fingers on the steering wheel out of nervousness as he drove. He arrived a mere ten minutes later and knocked firmly on her door. He waited almost 30 seconds with no response and was just about to pull out his cell phone and call her when the door opened and a flustered looking Claira answered the door. It was obvious she had just bolted down the stairs as fast as she could to answer the door. What was even more obvious was the look of surprise when she saw Joe on her doorstep rocking in the balls of his heels.
Claira: What are you doing here?

Joe huffed loudly and stuffed his hands in to the pockets of his jeans.

Joe: Im escorting you to your present. Happy 18 by the way

Claira: Im capable of driving myself you know

Joe hadnt seen this coming, but he probably should have. Claira was still angry with him, despite his attempts last night. He thought of something quickly hoping she would oblige.

Joe: Its very difficult to find so Kevin told me I should come get you. Im already here, it would be un-gentleman like of me to leave and let you go by yourself

Claira: Seriously Joe, Ill just go by myself

Joe: Are you really not mature enough to handle sitting in a car with me for five minutes?

She scratched her neck uncomfortably. He was right, she should be able to do that, shes now a mature 18 year old.

Claira: Fine, lets go

Joe turned around satisfied with himself and followed her out to the car.

Now that Joe had her alone with him, will they finally be able to work things out?
