  • I'll publish the part about turning and finishing. I talked too much and it ran long. Working on it today.

Less glue is often better. most of the excess squeezed out. I use it as gap filler too.

  • Thanks Captain Great tips! I've been working with Corian a bit now, and it's a neat material, great for pens and very rugged and wear resistant, really deals well with rough handling.

My shop pencils are made from Corian now, and they see some real abuse, and hold up really well.

If you look on Ebay, there are several guys selling the stuff CHEAP!

Also, Corian will send you up to 6 FREE SAMPLES @4"x4"x12mm! Just go to their site and request them, it's that easy!

Do it, and go MAKE SHAVINS!

  • Nice job!

  • Nice job!

  • Hey Capt. Eddie, Good video. I used to work with solid surface material when I worked in a cabinet shop between 2000 and 2004. I can't remember which brand we used on this one big job, concession stands and score box cabinets for East Cobb County youth baseball. I'm curious how it has lasted, that was 8 years ago or so, and sitting out in the sun and kids climbing on them I just wonder how it looked after the first winter and the first year or two.

  • Hi Cap'n,

Another great video. I'm still hunting for corian. After seeing the vid, I guess I can branch out and hunt for any sort of acrylic solid surface. Thanks for the info.

BTW, the idea I had for the chip shield to use on round tools worked like a champ!

  • Hey Cap i thought with superglue less was better??

  • I put up a blog for a guy that sells corian for turners @ corianpenblanks(dot)com great guy to deal with.

I've got over 500 corian pen blanks and also some sheet corian I'm going to do pendants with, once my new chuck comes in.

I did a bookmark today with corian and used the round carbide insert tool I picked up from you. Does great finish cuts on the corian! saved me a lot of sanding time. The only problem I have is I just can't seem to get it nice and glossy like acrylic blanks.
