Sir John Eliot Gardiner conducts the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists in a performance of Bach's Christmas Oratorio BWV 248 to begin their year long Cantata Pilgrimage.
I. Coro 'Herrscher des Himmels, erhore das Lallen'
II. Evangelista 'Und da die Engel'
III. Coro 'Lasset uns nun gehen, gen Bethlehem'
IV. Recitativo 'Er hat sein Volk getrost'
V. Choral 'Dies hat er alles uns getan'
VI. Duetto 'Herr, dein Mitleid'
It amazes me that the text "let our meagre songs" could ever apply to something Bach wrote!!! If he was "meagre", then I am not even close! Thank you for uploading this work. It was very enjoyable. BRIAN

At 7:00, the clarinette messes up for a second and gets quite a glance for that... :)

Who are the soloists?
The soprano is quite good, but she's a little too sharp.
Overall it's a very good rendition of this masterwork of Bach

Aren't sir Gardiner and his ensembles the greatest performer of Bach's music? When I listen to them, I think I could fly!!!

This work is beastly difficult and Gardiner and his group do a remarkable job of breathing life into this masterpiece.
