11/25/2011 Our return flight from Lou and Patty's house at PS03. You can tell how tired I was by the sound of the radio calls. It was a nice night with a little sheer zone at about 900 feet. Winds at the surface were pretty light but up at 3000 they were steady at about 30 knots.

  • Have you made it up to Cherry Ridge since we last exchanged emails? If you want a challenging place to land at night, that's it! A lot of people won't even land there at night honestly. I have a video on here of landing there at night. Nonstandard lights, and dim ones at that. The PCL is operated on 122.75 (keep clicking until they turn on - they have been NOTAMed out of service but they have been working).

  • @Chuckroc98 No but its on my list. I was there only once and saw a near crash. Guy in a piper tried to takeoff overweight and aborted. He stopped just short of the end of the runway, let the fat guy out and took off. :-)

  • Kids say the darndest things! Great video Mike - almost makes me want to have a little one of my own to take flying. I imagine I probably said stuff like that to MY dad back in the day too!

  • @Chuckroc98 You are a lucky guy to have a dad who took you flying. I wish I knew about this stuff when I was a kid. :-)

  • Your son is hard to please. ;-)

Great video. I hope to start training for night VFR early next year.

  • @geoffengelbrecht Good luck with your training. Yes he is getting smarter. He even pointed out that I was off course (adjusting my approach to arrive on the downwind). He pointed to the MFD and said.. Daddy... Look.

  • This was AWESOME!! I haven't taken my lil guy up at night yet!! Nice flying!

  • Nicely done. One thing about the alternator noise is that it nicely shows your power changes :-) Hopefully you don't hear it in the plane like I did with the Sundowner.

  • @mikeb172sp Sounds about right. :-)
