Introduce:Dongshan Township
Name:Dongshan Township Kite Festival
Time:Every September, October
Place:Dongshan Elementary School, Dongshan Township Jhenjhu Community Activity Center, Dongshan Street
Location Description:Kite flying is a common activity in Yilan. A Taiwanese saying: "On the 9th of September on the lunar calendar, the sky is full of roaring kites in the blowing wind" describes the kite-flying scene to a "t". Dongshan, the homeland of Taiwan kites, is therefore, not surprisingly, the Taiwanese town most involved in kite-flying activity. More than 20 years ago, under the leadership of 4 kite masters at Dongshan Elementary School, the initial launch of kite making sessions began, evolving into kite flying contests, a Kite Exhibit Hall, and finally a Kite Festival. The entire town has been, and is, continuously devoted to the promotion of kite related activities. The Kite Festival is now celebrating its 4th anniversary and has become the leading local cultural event. The Kite Exhibit Hall hosts local prize-winning master kites, each of which demonstrate the artistic accomplishments of Dongshan, and act as witnesses to the evolution of Taiwan's kite culture.
Ceremony:The Kite Festival features an array of kite exhibits and performances. In addition, there are also folk activities including kite making/painting, fire works, fun contests, street processions, sky lantern releasing, etc, complemented with special local farm produce displays.
Transportation:Driving: Take the Binhai Coastal Hwy to Provincial Hwy No. 9 to destination via Luodong. Via Public Transportation:Take the train to Luodong or Donshan and get on a tourist shuttle bus.
