@SikismekAtaturk So it is time we realized that it is not 'the Persians' or 'Persian government', let us direct our hatred and anger towards the right source, which benefits from separation of the people. Moreover, we could use the energy it takes us to hate and to grieve and put it into use: do cultural work, start something, bring people together and pass on what little has been left. There is always room for social and cultural work.
@SikismekAtaturk Indeed the governments have been the ones to benefit, no doubt from that. Believe me when I say I am one of the most active storytellers about the butcheries in Kurdistan and the sad fate of this precious culture. But one thing also the government wants the minorities in Iran to forget about is that it is not only their fate. The term Persian might be there but what has really been done to preserve Persian language and cultural heritage? Also nothing, so we're in this together.
One time I was wearing our traditional Kurdish shoe wear in Newroz celebration. A Persian friend saw it and said to me: "We also have that in Iran", I said where in Iran, he said Kermanshan and it's called Geevah. I told him Agha Jan, Geevah is Kurdish name for this type of Kurdish shoe wear, and Kermanshan is largest Kurdish city in Iran, you have famous carpets which the world knows about so please just leave these pair of shoes for us and name them as Kurdish shoe wear. He laughed and agreed.
@nodeterin We never had a relative peace or calm with any of the successive governments which ruled Iran, the exception perhaps is Karim Xan Zend, who was a Kurd from the famous Zend clan. The dominance of Persians in governing Iran disadvantaged the rest major ethnicities namely Kurds and Azerbajanis. The history books which are taught only talks about the prowess of Persian rulers, the carpets are Persian and when it's not Persian it's called Iranian, so tell me who is benefiting from this?
@nodeterin You are right, but who is benefiting from the word Iranian in Iran, whose culture is dominating other ethnicities in Iran and who is controlling every aspect of cultural, political, social and economic developments in Iran? We Kurdistanis would have loved the idea to proclaim ourselves Iranians if there was good ground for us to rejoice in this universal identity. But all modern rulers of Iran made this identity a means to suppress, oppress and assimilate Kurds into Persians.
@nodeterin I believe it is important for us to live together and do not let the state deepen the gap between us. I have lived among Persians and non Persians, I admire the folklore of everywhere in the world. Folk culture is precious cause it came to being out of a completely different need.
Same as my mom did for me, I will sing my child songs of every corner of Iran, tell all sorts of stories and let it know that there is nothing more despicable than separating people in the name of heritage.
@SikismekAtaturk Iranian is not the same as Persian, there are many ethnicities with a long history living in the land called Iran now, only one of them are the Persians. As far as I know, 'Persian Carpet' is called 'Ghalie Irani' in Persian. Kurds are not the only ethnicity gifted in this craft, one good example is the Tabriz carpet.
But I always loved Iran for its huge variety of cultures, each rich and precious in one way or another, making Iran to a colorful land.
@nodeterin Bray Aziz, copy the name I chose and paste it on Google Translate and then you will see the meaning of it, then you will understand why I chose this name. My point however, is that Iran, Persia, Iranian and Persian are all names that synonymous with the Persians as a race. Iran exports carpets which as Persian carpets even the ones that are produced in Kurdistan by Kurds. You have claimed most of our heritage and culture and it is about time we name what is rightfully ours.
