  • What about carpet tac strips and padding? This method seems easier, without the fuss of those extra materials and carpeting tools.

  • I've got a contractor doing some general work for me around my place and was going to have him install stair runners, but his plan was to staple around the lip of the steps and then use rods only -- NO stapling at the back of the step -- which seems bad since rods are supposedly decorative ONLY.

  • Stair runners are meant to stay there. It is always easier to install a runner than full carpeting the stairs.

  • are you supposed to leave the stair rods on their? which is easier to do...stair runner or full carpet for stairs?
