Dear Vivian: Aside from the disc being especially clean, am not sure as to absence of surface noise. Something about the pickup, curved tonearm and the folded speaker system perhaps neutralizes some of these frequencies? All Best. Doug --

Fascinating. It is a quite different experience from listening to this recording reproduced on bang up to date equipment. This is surely an electric recording? This method of recording was at least ten years old in 1935. EMG horn machines were fine for voices but not too great for orchestral or instrumental. There is a remarkable absence of surface noise. How was this managed? Thanks anyway - it was fun.

Most welcome... thank YOU, Janja!

The serpentine, folded tonearm, while enlarging the pickup also appears to subdue surface noise. Thank you, Edmund!
Sensuous, almost hypnotic music that casts a spell for which Delius was justly
famous! A painted landscape in sound with expressive coloration! Beecham
makes the most of the humid atmosphere and displays his genius for encouraging
the listener to hear the orchestra as an integrated whole rather that just the sum
of its parts. Evocative, enchanting composition and performance. Thank you,
Doug!

Beautifully shot, and interesting to hear this as many would have done, complete with side change. I'd like to hear to played back using electrical equipment of the period for comparison.

My electrical turntables are 3-4 decades removed from 1935. Still, it would be nice to hear this and other recordings on contemporary equipment as you have described. Many thanks! Doug --
