I stood quickly in my chair. My odd behaviour caught the attention of everyone at my table. "I gotta go see if they have any lemons left in the fruit bowl." I offered in an honest answer.
"Why?" One of the guys asked, still with a questioning look.
"It's good for dreads." I answered simply, again. I didn't wait around to have to give a full description of the care taking of dreads, before I was already off to the fruit platter. I know I had seen a few lemons in it earlier.
Perfect, there's one lemon left. I dove quickly for it, as the irritation of my scalp grew by the passing moments.
For a split second, I felt a moment of complete and utter shock. Everything around me just didn't seem as relevant as this particular moment in my life. Time had stopped clicking away and I was left in a blissful peace. I didn't feel my scalp anymore. I didn't feel the pain from overworking my sore muscles. I didn't even feel tired. It was the opposite. I felt like I could run five more miles without stopping. I felt like I could climb a mountain even. Pure euphoria clouded all of my better judgements.
When it seemed as if an hour had gone by, the split second moment had ended. Everything was back to normal. Life was the same as it had been when I arrived. I was reminded of the bitter reality of being trapped in this form of a prison. My heart yearned for the slightest reminder of my mother and home. The high was gone and this was just the crash that came after.
"I'm sorry."
What? Was there someone else witnessing this bizarre moment of mine? I slowly tilted my head up. I caught the face of a boy that was standing oddly close to me. His hair was dark and gelled up in spikes at the tips. His eyes wore a coat of black paint around them that only seemed to bring out their caramel colouring. Even with cogitation returning to me, I found myself still bewildered and astonished that I couldn't help but stutter. "Wh-aatt?"
The other boy took a small step back. "I said I was sorry. You can have the last lemon if you want to." His look was of confusion as to why he was to explain his apology.
Lemon? I noticed that the yellow fruit was still in my grasp. "Right." This was all I managed to get out this time. The boy, that had only just appeared, was already gone from my sight. He had disappeared when I looked up from my hand.
Who was he? Where is he? What just happened? I couldn't wrap my head around what happened, no matter how hard I tried. I wanted to go off searching for him, but when I started to walk in a random direction to find him, someone stopped me.
"Tom, you ok?" Georg asked calmly. He had noticed my intense gaze at nothing in particular. I just gave a slight nod in response. I didn't want to risk talking again. "They just called our table to leave."
"Leave where?" I asked out loud this time. Panic had seept into my voice. I didn't want to go anywhere. I wanted to find him; whoever him was.
"To the barracks. Dinners over." Georg replied.
No! I have to find him again! I have to find out what just happened!

And Finally, this is where the drama begins!!! This is also the last of Chapter 2. Now that the story is getting more exciting, I would like to see atleast 10 comments before posting Chapter 3- Addiction vs. Infatuation. I only ask this because I know that my video averages 30 views for this story. If only 1/3 of you comment, then I'll be happy!!! It's always good to make a writer happy, cause I'll write more!!!
