Gas explosion in South Harrow, emergency services arrive

At around 9.40pm on the evening of 7th May 2008 there was a MASSIVE explosion. Two houses were devastated in Stanley Road in South Harrow. Scotland Yard has confirmed that a man has died and two other people have non-life threatening injuries. Six fire engines and thirty fire fighters were on the scene. The explosion could be heard about five miles away. A similar explosion happened in February 2008 where a gas leak caused a major explosion.

omg i live in stanley round the new houses now!!!! so this is why it got rebuilt...

If you're talking about the brand new housing complex (8 stories high or more) at the end of Stanly by the train tracks, those didn't get built because of the explosion. That area had been ear marked for development for years and it just happened. The explosion on Stanley was much further up the road towards Northolt Road and the extend of the damage wouldn't have got all the way to the new flat on the other end of the Stanley. Unless, of course, you're talking about some other new flats?

I heard the blast in South Oxhey , my thoughts are with the family of the man who died and my wishes are with the 2 in hospital.Scary to think that this was not an accident.
