'Sunshine' did'nt have a good box office in Britain due to opening on the hottest weekend of the year
'Moon' is the best sci-fi film recently

Interestingly Tarantino reviewed Sunshine and I think its in youtube.

I thought Hot Fuzz was hampered a bit by it's crazy editing. I realise it's part send up of the flicks it's apeing and part Edgar W's style, and it works in short episodes of Spaced where it keeps things snappy. Here though it's used from the first 5 seconds onwards, infact there doesn't appear to be any shots lasting over 5 seconds at all and in a 2hour plus film this kills the pace and makes it feel LONG and tiring. They should have built up to it and used more restraint. GREAT script though!

Watch his film trailer(Trailers from hell)where he talks about one of this favorite films SILENT RUNNING.

I promise this is the last comment: if anyone has had the patience to read this far. 'Sunshine's' music score. This movie really needed a good dramatic score to bolster the flawed story and underdeveloped characters. The electronic mish-mash made no impression on me and failed to create an emotional response to the film. Good scores can transfer their conviction and skill to the movie itself: weak scores only distract the audience.

I could go on but this is already too long. When a script only provokes questions about how unlikely everything is, the film doesn't really stand a chance. I thought it was solidly directed, looked good and the cast did the best they could. I think 'Sunshine' gets favourable responses because 99% of science fiction films are poor to awful and 'Sunshine' is above average. I won't even comment on the last 15 minutes. It's clear the financing was dependent on this part of the film.

Deciding to rondevous with Icarus 1: I don't accept the reasoning for this. All the 2nd ship's crew knows is that the first ship didn't make it, either from internal or external problems. There's no indication that the first ship is properly operational or has survivors. It's been parked in close orbit around the sun for almost seven years - no heat shield would withstand that. Chris Evan's was right to protest and his captain should have backed him up: it's unjustifed risk.
-
Major problems I had with 'Sunshine' : No explanation is ever given for why the sun would be failing - not only is this ludicrous scientifically but the lack of explanation just starts the movie off on an unconvincing footing. Everything starts to unravel due to the navigator not using the computer for the course correction or checking his calculations with the computer or crew (and the Captain and 2nd in Command aren't present at a mission critical operation?!!). Unbelievable!

Saw 'Sunshine' today and while I don't think it's a bad film, it also didn't engage or impress me, largely due to the script. First, can anyone tell me why Chris Evans volunteered Cillian Murphy for the shield repair mission. This sene seems out of character for Evan's character and Murphy's too. It's a capably made and acted film but I realised at the end that I didn't find the story either believable or moving in any way. (All the above is obviously just my opinion), [continued]

I'm with some others on Sunshine. Just saw it today and I liked it until the end.
