I really think this is the saddest ending I've ever seen to any film, I understand the symbollic aspects but the fact that they probably died drowning like they had so many times in the lab, brutal to think about

Damn it! I was REALLY hoping it would be a happy ending. I hate when writers kill off the main character(s). Especially when you're really rooting for them. Such a piss off.

wooowww, hope that they found their island, even if the island was just death through their eyes. but at least they were free :') I absolutely loved the movie! shows us that we are not the only ones capable of adaption, survival, and overcoming adversity. we are also no the only victims of cruel torture. I hope they make more movies like this!!!!!!!

@MrWiLDAPEMAN lies, some convicts are innocent but were wrongly accused and thrown into jail because the penal system has been toyed with so much by the government that as it stands now they can throw anyone in jail just because they feel like it..

Snitter wanted to go to a place where humans cannot harm them, realistically that would have been death, the ending matters not whether they made it to the island or died, they were free.

This movie was just so moving... I am definitely going to read the book now, i know i should have read it first but i only just came across it on youtube tonight after many years having not watched it. I was only a youngster around 5 or 6 so i literally only remember the fox in the mine and when the dogs are in incinerator. Besides i heard the book was more complicated and being 15 it should be easier to understand now, anyway im still crying while writing this comment, so sad but beautiful.
