The Conga Kings (Candido Camero,Giovanni Hidalgo & Carlos (Patato) Valdez) played the World Financial Center,NYC ! Patato born in Havana 1926 migrated to the US in 1955 in that same year he joins Kenny Dunham's band & recorded " Afro-Cuban "album with the band as percussionist! In 1956 Mr. Valdez joins the Machito Orchestra &Herbie Mann. He comes to prominence when he meets & records the Classic Rumba album "Patato y Totico" in 1968 on Verve label (a must for any collector). Arsenio-Cachao_also were feature on that awesome disc. Music from the Conga Kings soundtrack "Accidental Mambo"_____original members of The Conga Kings Ray Santos Arranger & Conductor,Guillermo Edgehill Bassist.

Yes, I was there in New York, for that show... The next day, they were at the Blue Note, for Candidos Birthday party... I forget how old he was then... I got to hang with Patato up in their gift shop area. I have those pictures on myspace... A few months later, on a flight back to New York, from Cali, the plane he was on had to make an emergacy landing in Ohio, near Cleveland... and there he past away... RIP Patato, you'll be missed...
