Based on historical evidence, JOHN HARVARD is the fictional account of the Puritan reverend who would become Harvard University's first great benefactor and eternal namesake. On the evening of Sept. 14, 1638, John Harvard returns to his home in Charlestown for the last time. That night, he is visited by Reverend Thomas Allen to compose his will. Though comforted by his wife Ann and manservant Benjamin, he slowly weakens physically and spiritually until he can no longer breathe, except to utter his last words, a bequest that would change the New World. Filmed on location at the Cambridge Historical Society and the Swedenborg Chapel, Cambridge, MA. With music by the Harvard Glee Club. Presented in celebration of the 400th anniversary of John Harvard's birth. Produced & directed by Michael Van Devere. Copyright 2007. Fabular Films.

  • The Rev. Harvard was a Puritan. In all likelihood he would have fled in horror from the stained glass, candle and statues shown in the film. Yes, it certainly is a work of fiction.
