Robert J. Young of the Michigan Supreme Court has cloaked his agenda of facilitating the profiteering by insurance companies by faux "conservatism." Young and the former "majority of four" were the most activist and unrestrained group of justices in the United States when it came to overturning stare decisis case law. Meanwhile, Michigan businesses and consumers paid among the highest insurance premiums in the nation, while the insurers faced little, if any exposure due to Young's efforts. A former insurance attorney, Young actually listed an insurance company headquarters as his treasury address on campaign disclosure forms. As one might imagine, insurance company profits experienced explosive growth since Young's election. Now he faces the voters repeats the mantra that the "trial lawyers" are behind the dissatisfaction the public has for his judicial policy making from the bench.
