you are correct in every way but apple will not do these things like custom backgrounds because if they made a product that did everything possible, you wouldn't need to buy the next gen iPod/iPhone. apple is afraid that you would be 100% satisfied and wouldn't buy the new thing that has 1 more function than the last.

Note it is illegal also note the law doesnt give a shit they just try to scare you by saying its illegal because software from cydia is known to enhance your device which is messing with the software that apple had on it which was basic apple tells you that you cant do anything with the device that YOU paid for if they wanna bring out any kinds of laws an item purchased is yours and you can do what you wish with it even take it apart and put it together they cant tell you otherwise its yourMONEY

I jail broke my iPod just do I could customize my slider and get SB settings. And it's not illegal unless u use it for cracked apps. If u don't believe me then search it.
