The ability to believe is our Achilles heel, as a species. Where we have knowledge our actions are soundly based. If we need to act, lacking knowledge, we have to guess. If the guess doesn't misfire, we promote it to theory. Acting on reasonable theory is better than not acting. But it's essential that we recognize theory as an unsatisfactory stopgap, and that we never stop challenging it.

The reason why religion is so damaging is that it promotes theory to the status of knowledge .

@reet12337 ?? I see the concept of sarcasm to present an absurdity of someone's opinion is somehow lost in the way you read my comment. It was not against Christ but it was challenging the concept of being baptised and speaking in tongues as essentials for salvation through the example of a criminal who was saved by faith in Christ.

The thief on the cross was saved by his faith before the new testament church was started which means we can not use him as the standard of salvation for new covenant salvation but must go to the book of acts for the standard of salvation.

This is the new birth-- water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ and Holy Ghost baptism as evidenced by speaking in another tongue as the Spirit of God gives the utterance. Those whom have not experienced this were not born again and shall not enter the kingdom of God.
