Seems like people are confused on why I think this has been a failure. So here's the explanation:

The riots ruined it. They prevented the planned occupation of the square, the beginning of the "Occupy" event, and considering that it was organized as a world non-violent event, I consider the rioting pure fail. Especially considering that the only hurt people are protesters, hurt by other rioters (a guy had his hand hurt by explsosives, and a girl got a rock in her head).

This was supposed to be part of a global movement that fights in different ways. The enemies are not the governments anymore, the enemies are the financial powers, and they don't care if you riot, actually they find a way to gain money from your random rioting. And now this movement, in Italy, is pretty much dead already due to the terrible timing of the rioters.

Riots are not always wrong. I rioted before and I will riot whenever I consider it strategically useful. In this particular riots were ridiculously wrong, and strategically hurtful for the people.

Also, if you can read Italian, I explained it here: http://femminismo-a-sud.noblogs.org/post/2011/10/18/15ott-cose-il-movimento-g...

  • how can you call this fail, the person who wrote the title is fail, the people ignoring this is fail, the world is gonna change

  • @acevape Read the other comments, where I explained why it ended up in fail.

  • I didn't see any riots going on, I saw portestors dancing and acting peacefully. Until they were tear gassed, thats a fail for them or the police? If there was any violence.. who initiated it? Wtf is wrong with citizens occupying their own land???

  • @MzBloo2u You were not there. I guess I am biased because I was, and I know the political reality of this city/country. The rioters initiated the riots. This is not up for debates. The dancing, the occupation, they were the beautiful parts of the protest. Sadly, the rioting prevented the occupation of the square that was supposed to begin that night. I hate the police, and I understand rioting under certain circumstances. Not this time. My bad if these images don't support what I am saying.

  • @MzBloo2u Basically, those who came TO riot cut us off from the beautiful movement that is now everywhere, and that judging by your vidoes you are part of too. Now we can't start again cause the whole Occupy Roma movement is plagued with these masked rioters.

  • and where is the fail in this i wonder?

  • @silenzju The riots. • Italians have already had their revolutions, against Mussolini, Bella ciao! Against G8 in Genova 2001, din't you see Surplus: Terrorized into Being Consumers? I guess that they started the protests against capitalism 10 years a go and that they are still too tired of shit to "occupy professionally" again. Plus, you don't really give a reason to why they have failed? If they got hurt it's because of the police, it wouldn't be the first time the police filter into protests.

  • @MzBloo2u maybe next time explain this, since I can only judge from your video and the comment. Enough said. Enough wasn't enough.
