Taken from a telecast from the Metropolitan Opera on Feb 28th 1982.

Tatiana Troyanos and Placido Domingo sing the Giulietta - Hoffman duet from Jaques Offenbach Tales of Hoffman.

(I had incorrectly misidentified Toyanos as singing Antonia in this duet. Antonia is the singer, Giulietta is the courtesan and the one who steals Hoffman's soul. Troyanos never sang Antonia, a soprano role, but she was a celebrated Giulietta, a role mezzo sopranos sing frequently)

  • Sorry, but isn't this Guillietta and Hoffman, not Antonia? Fabulous, regardless.

  • Oh sweet Jesus! you are so right! Thanks for correcting me. Yes it is the courtesan Giulietta and not the singer Antonia.

  • After watching this, I wonder...why hasn't the world been renamed after Tatiana Troyanos?

  • God, Domingo was young there. What a shame Troyanos died so young.

  • She is a fabulous Carmen too!

  • Oh you are welcome- it's not as if people wouldn't figure it out since the commentator says it anyway. I was looking for the duet from the 3rd act and found this gem. I am not at all dissappointed; thanks for posting! I had thought it odd that a mezzo would sing Antonia...
