The first Anxious Sound presentation at Carroll Gallery in the Woldenberg Art Center on the Tulane/Newcomb campus, a new development that I'm very excited about (many thanks to Laura Richens). The new media exhibition that's in the gallery right now should made for a fascinating scene for this performance.
Death Posture http;//www.deathposture.org
Active since its inception in the spring of 2002, The Death Posture explores the breathing web between sound and movement. Utilizing the highly disciplined butoh dance of Vanessa Skantze and the dense sound-field generated by the tabletop electric guitars of Donald Miller and Rob Cambre, their performances are characterized by a heightened focus of the senses, a tuning of the eyes and ears, or as Vanessa puts it so well, "Transmutation of energy through extreme focus; the murder of everyday life via sonic and physical presence: Our dance is a mirror and nervous system."
The Death Posture performed frequently in New Orleans prior to Vanessa's move to Seattle, often with the inclusion of additional dancer Alex Haverfield and sometimes with guest musicians, such as renowned percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani.
