@Jeijk i knowwwwww, everyone knows that the winning hand must be shown! it is standard practice, and bellande is being a pure bellend trying to be clever. just show, simple as that
-
tough shit jean, you have to show! get over it being so fucking picky
-
yeyy hes teaching the american public, what a legend
-
well done bellend, you finally admitted ur wrong

@TheNutcracker19 - actually at the commerce and some other casinos they have a rule that the last player with cards wins the pot. Phil has the option to show the 8 high or give up his claim to the pot. If he doesn't show his cards there's nothing to beat and JRB gets the pot. I actually prefer this since it gets me more information and limits players bluffing into you OOP on the river since they don't want to show you it.

if phil mucks, surely jrb must show both his cards to win the pot at showdown.
if this wasn't a rule, there'd be far too many problems with chip passing and soft play vs hard play.

@bevon53 eh, noo

Otherwise you know...he could be full of shit and muck rags

COORREECTIIOOON: Jean-Robert HAS TO SHOW his hand to take down the pot. It doesnt matter if his opponent mucks, the WINNING hand can' t muck when all bets are made on the river. If both players muck, the pot is split up..
And now let me explain why: Lets say it's player A versus player B. if player A says something like -"flush" after all bets are made, and it's showdown time. like on this video. And player B mucks his hand (thinking that player A indeed has a flush). he has to show his cards

WTF??? if hellmuth mucks, then john robert wins the pot, right there. he doesn't need to show his hand, cause hellmuth mucked. it's the EXACT SAME as if hellmuth folded on the flop or the turn. john robert wouldn't have to show his hand there, so he doesn't have to here.
forcing john robert to show his hand is forcing him to give away extra information, while hellmuth gets off free and doesn't have to show what he was bluffing with.
bobby bellande is a class act. he admitted he was wrong as far as etiquette was concerned and overall should have just turned the hand over. But I see his point too, I have seen it hundreds if not thousands of times in poker rooms everywhere, the guy says you got it and mucks and the other guy mucks too as to not show a shaky call.

Speaking solely from an etiquette standpoint, Hellmuth is right, as much as it pains me to admit it. If you're Jean-Robert in that spot, you should just turn your hand over if you have any respect for your opponent. The rules were on his side but that doesn't change the fact that his conduct here is poor. Show some respect for chrissakes.
