One of the greatest performances ever recorded in any music genre. Gigli's voice seems to be operating on a level unheard of, out of this dimension, notes heard only in heaven.

The ballet premiered at the Imperial Theatre of the Hermitage on 23 February 1900 with an audience composed of the whole of the Imperial court as well as the Emperor and the Empress. Within moments of the final curtain the audience erupted into thunderous applause, and the composer received such a reception that he was mobbed my several princes and Grand Dukes who tripped over one another in their enthusiasm to congratulate Drigo for his score...
