Jailbreak iOS 4 / 4.0.1 on iPhone 3g

How to Jailbreak the iPhone 3g for non-AT&T sim users (T-Mobile, etc).

Instructions:

Update iPhone 3g in iTunes 9.2 to the current 4.0.1 firmware.

Download Redsnow 0.9.5 for Windows http://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files/home/redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-5.zip...

or Redsnow 0.9.5 for MAC. http://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files/home/redsn0w_mac_0.9.5b5-5.zip... This is used to Jailbreak.

Download iOS4 for iPhone 3g. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5ZA2LG9Z
Redsnow will need this file.

Turn the phone off by holding the power button. Open RedSnow 0.9.5 and follow the instructions.

When complete, turn the WiFi on in the iPhone.
Open Cydia and let it update itself.

Add the source : cydia.hackulo.us

Find and run Ultrasnow in Cydia and you are done!

I have the right iTunes version, I downloaded the IPSW file for 3GS but if I browse it with redsn0w it wont find it. It says its not a correct file, It only sees the IPSW file for iPhone 3G ... What schould I do ? I tried for 100 times ... And nothing ...

@foranlehel I believe you need to download the 4.0 IPSW instead of the 4.0.1 for RedSnow.

@foranlehel I would start over from scratch if I'm stuck. That usually does the trick. Make sure iTunes is the right version. Do an update, download the right IPSW for your model phone, etc. I don't get stuck often but when I do, I just backtrack and it has always worked out. Good luck !

i have the 3.1.2 version right now. How can i upgrade to 4.0 if itunes only gives me the option to upgrade to 4.0.2?

It all worked fine for me, great video. But i was wondering when i go into cydia, what do i choose? Hacker, etc. And how do i get my iphone back to normal as it wont let me restore to factory settings.

druxboyz, u r a lifesaver... It worked. I got AT&T software locked phone on 3.1.3 & I tried to update the firmware to 4.0.1 & I was stuck on emergency screen. I went thru your vid instructions and everything is now OK. Thanks a mil!
