Blue Moon Of Kentucky was a waltz written in 1947 by Bluegrass musician Bill Monroe. He didnt record the song until 3 years later, making use of his band The Blue Grass Boys. Elvis recorded it in 1954 and Sam Phillips is said to have exclaimed "BOY, thats fine. Thats a POP song now!" To which Elvis responded " That sounds like Carl Perkins!" Elvis's version went to nbr1 on the Country charts along with Thats Alright Mama, and the rest is history. This is my tribute to the great man on the Anniversary of his death. It also happens to be the Anniversary of my wifes mothers death and id like to dedicate this to her also.
