Marion Cook from Australians for Refunds on Cans and Bottles (AFROCAB) demonstrates a "reverse vending machine" (RVM). Typically placed in a supermarket or service station carpark, an RVM receives empty containers and refunds 10c per item, usually in the form of a voucher that may be redeemed at a nearby shop.

Colleen Hartland, Victorian Greens member for Western Metropolitan Region, is proposing a 10c returnable deposit on all drink bottles, cans and cartons in Victoria. See http://mps.vic.greens.org.au/10cdeposit

  • Isn't that wasting paper as well? Should have a card or something so you can slowly get credit up and then use that at a shop.
