Before there were home video cameras, there were home 8mm movie cameras. This is a quick look inside the WKYS on air studio at NBC in Washington, D.C. in 1977. WKYS was "Disco Stereo 93" at the time. Other people in this short film are Ann Gudelsky who was a news writer for WRC AM All News 98 right next store to the WKYS booth. Ann later became Ann Cipriano, a role she has decided to keep for almost 30 years now. Mark Wile was an anchor for WRC AM and Mason Srole was an engineer and later club D.J. This is a short glimpse into classic major market radio. The disc jockey could not touch any equipment including the records. The only control the on air talent had was headphone volume and turning the microphone on and off. As you can see, the on air booth was pretty bare.

ps, you've come along way, from WKYS to Mr. Deal or No Deal!!!

  • Joe,

I became a fan of yours when you voiced WHQT HOT 105 Miami in 1992. I was a 23 old kid doing afternoons, and delighted to hear a refreshing sound in a radio imagers voice. Today I'm heard all over as a radio imaging and voice actor. I still follow your career today, and still I am inspired by your talent, as well as you willingness to share/teach through video. Thanks for being an inspiration:)
