@bennude10 One of the basic premises of Onkalo is that we WON'T be around to protect it. It is built to protect the civilizations that come after us. It keeps the waste safe without our intervention for at least 100,000 years
-
Onkalo means just "cavity" in Finnish.

Great documentary. Made me think about the future.

Can anyone tell me where the piano melody that starts at 1:29 comes from? Sounds like Philip Glass...

I also saw it on the TV and I was so taken back by it. I never would have thought that a science-film would be so captivating.

This was aired on Finnish National TV a few weeks back - they're storing that nuclear crap inside our national bedrock anyways. It's a precise, beautiful and haunting documentary on the future nuclear waste dilemma that will be a global problem some day, everyone should see it.

Not dissing the film, but why is it so important for us to live that long? Even after all these years we still continue to kill each other over religion and oil. Always has to do with some kind of power struggle, governments and rulers will use or do anything to keep their people in fear and perpetual suffering. Why would 100,000 years later be any different? Genocide. Nukes. Racism. Greed. Poverty. Humans will never change. Prove me wrong humans from the future! I'd be shocked and relieved.
