Dwarf hamster taking a bath

My little lady Haru (Russian Winter White) aged 4 months taking a sand bath.

Haru passed away this summer, on June 10th 2010, at the age of 2 years and 4 months. She was a sweet little lady throughout her whole life, and I really do miss her! ♥

The sand in question is chinchilla bathing sand, you can buy it at your petstore, that's where I got mine. Normal sand from the beach etc. isn't the same thing. I had a box of regular sand for Haru to use as her toilet, but she never really understood what it was for, and tried to bathe in it.

Dwarf hamsters use bathing sand to keep their fur clean, and you are NOT supposed to give them waterbaths, ever!!

I didn't keep the sand in Haru's cage (duna) all the time, I gave it to her when I felt like she needed it.
