In this protest, farmers from fifteen states are expected to take part covering Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Consumers from Delhi are expected to join the farmers in this protest against the Government of India and big agri-business corporations in their undemocratic attempts to thrust down unsafe food down our throats.

In India, we are standing on the verge of the first GM food crop, Bt Brinjal, being approved for the second (and probably last) year large scale trials this Kharif 2008. It is at this juncture that this protest, a symbol of the building resistance against GM crops, is being organized.

  • Stand up for your rights people, this new world order threatens humanity. We use toilet paper with interest for money, now we have no choice in what we consume. Humanity is beautiful, don't believe the evil lies and hate created between us, so much so that we value any life above that of a human being. I stand for humanity, let's all stand against this global tyranny.

  • @lewishphp we do NOT want to be a lab experiment. If GM corps are so good why doesn't Monsanto be progressive and ask for mandatory labeling in the US? They know it is harmful and that would result in traceability. We've been feeding the world with organic farming for 4,000 years. We don't need GM it is not an necessarily evil but just evil.

  • Moron when you don't understand the science don't talk about it. GM foods are the worst thing that could happen to all of humanity. Even the scientists that make it don't know its long term impact. There are ORGANIC alternatives to pesticides.

  • Im sorry even the workers at Monsanto have asked to take it out GM from their own cafeteria. google "truth about GMO"

    or info-gmo.blogspot

  • Even the Amish now use GM crops!

  • GM crops are the way forward, please try and give some real, true arguments against GM crops because I cant seriously think of any, I dont understand how people can be against them.

  • Rice is being modified in India that has allowed blind people to see again, banana trees in Africa that has saved entire villages from starvation. All this is now possible chemical-free, just using the actual genes and DNA of the crops involved.

None of you are properly informed, all you claim is that it is 'bad' and everyone calls them 'frankenstein-foods'. If food that is better for me, the enviroment and the farmers is frankenstein food, i'd happily eat frankenstein food.

  • Why are GM crops bad?

A food source to feed thousands more people, pest-resistant crops can be made so pesticides become redundant, thus GM crops are BETTER for the enviroment. Crops can be made to cure human diseases, fill vitamin deficiencies or be resistant to diseases that destroy entire yields of subsistance farms.

  • I've been telling everybody I know about GM foods and the havoc they are wreaking. Americans are woefully uninformed even about the bad foods we ourselves are consuming. Hopefully, enough of us can be informed to organise a boycott of Monsanto and other corporations - bleed them of capital until they go out of business.
