@Thingstolaughat1 It's just one of those gags that comes to mind when you think of Chaplin's tramp and it was a particular favourite amongst the audience; it's definitely a beloved scene that marks why America loved Chaplin's character so much. It was referenced in the Simpsons once (that's not to say of what makes it infamous, it just goes to show that it is present within popular fiction) and it's such simplistic humour that showed Chaplin's improvisational skills as well within films. :)
