To counter claims that the executive branch has authority under the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling, Senator Lee explains how the Constitution clearly gives this power to Congress and actually binds the executive branch to give priority to servicing the national debt in the event that the ceiling isn't raised.

  • Well spoken by rising star who's part of the coming wave of US Senators born in the Groovy 1970's. Senators Lee and Rubio (both born in 1971) are well positioned to make a real positive difference for the country and good luck to them.

I'd pay a bundle to watch a debate between Senator Lee and the

    alleged-without-evidence "consitutional scholar" Obama.

  • Wow, this totally reverses Progressives half baked attempt to skirt law by using their own constitutional claims against them.

Go Senator Lee! While I've had my doubts, you're really sticking it to them. Calling out Geithner on his political posturing compared to his constitutional duties is brilliant.

This should save us the trouble of passing a spending priorities act through an uncooperative Senate body since debt service and pensions are at top of 14th amendments list #defaultlie

  • Nice arguments.

  • I think they meant invoke Section IV of Article II, not the 14th Amendment.

  • Who fucking cares about this shit or our national debt, I wanna talk about Casey Anthony and Derek Jeter.

  • I was mistaken, I have to add in finishing comment, that if the United States of America was turned into the now insurgent governmental Corporation that it is today, then it is afforded the same protection as a real live man, woman or child, in any state of our Union, under the Law of Nations principles, too. Emer de Vattel is a good place to start learning how all nations have to follow these principles, Founding Fathers were well aware of these principles too when they drafted U.S.Constitution

  • Oh and one more thing I want to point out, about Article One, Section Eight of the U.S.Constitution. There is a clause in there that refers to the ' Law of Nations' principles that all nations have to use, even today! This evil, illegal 14th Amendment, turned Corporations into 'persons' in eyes of law. The law of nations clause, affords every person protection in any state that they may be in, period. Supreme Court decided a corp. is a person too, so they are afforded same rights in statetostate

  • So, I will now ask, how can a Public not be allowed to ask questions of the debt that will be put on them, if it is now under Private Law (which means they can privately control/manipulate the laws anyway they want, without public approval and this is exactly what they do, do)! It is an oxymoron, how can a public not question a private law or a debt that is put onto them (public) ? Does not make a bit of sense.

  • This man is mistaken, the Law the Geithner is referring to in Section Four of the Fourteenth Amendment is because, this evil amendment has changed the Laws of before the 14th Amend. from Public Law to now Private Law.. This is what Geithner is talking about. All of these de facto governmental agents forget to let us in on the real deal of how things really go. The validity of the Public Debt of the United States, as authorised by Law (Private Law now) shall not be questioned, by whousthepublic?

  • Best explanation ever. Home run!

  • @eclecticdufus "suggested here" not meaning Senator Lee of course, but those on other websites who think the POTUS can do this..
