Reenacting the Vietnam War (Part 1/2)

We went to North Carolina where a group of war vets and history buffs realistically reenact the Vietnam War.

Over the last 50 years war reenactment has gone from something guys at the Elks Club did on the weekend to get away from their wives to a full-blown obsession among history buffs with enough free time to make the experience as true to life as possible. Along with the increased intensity has come an increased demand for variety. The Vietnam War has typically been forbidden territory, but reenactment groups around the country have begun collecting their rice hats and period-appropriate M16s for pretend skirmishes with fake Viet Cong. Thomas embeds with the Virginia-Carolina Military History Association as they embark on their first tour through Vietnam...in North Carolina.

I don't know the ballistics for it but the farthest I hit someone in that training exercise was about 150 yards.

does it have the same ballistics cause that sounds like it'd be to light for any thing but close quarters

There's also this special training ammunition called simunition which is basically a powder paint bullet. Fires like a bullet with kick and all that but leaves a paint star where you get shot. I've used it once training with some security forces guys I was stationed with. It hurts like hell haha.

Probably not. It's an expensive military system. Would be awesome though. Way better than paintball or airsoft lol.

they might have used bullet shaped paintballs that are put in the place of a bullet, aka fired as a regular cartridege

If I remember correctly there's a system like that called the M.I.L.E.S. system. Basically you use blanks and wear a special flak vest and it detects the laser when you get hit.

no then it wouldn't have the same effect.

they could however use a laser tag system that is triggered by barrel pressure but that would be a bit pricey .
