Your hyperbole is bordering on obnoxious here, mani. No. of horses in race, no. races won, that's a (excuse me) a pissing contest to a degree. Secretariat handled 12 other horses in the Derby. If he cld beat best 4 yr olds in Europe and No. America by 6 1/2 lngths in Can Internat'l at 1 5/8 mi in 35 deg, wind, rain and flurries I think he cld've handled 2 mi. I just think Secretariat deserves more fm you. Pics of Phar Lap, 17 hands, chestnut, astound me. Way he died too painful to think of.

Secretariat beat best 4 yr olds in No. America (+Canada) in Marlboro Cup and set a record. and in his last race, Canadian Internat'l, he did it again in terrible weather. And BTW, in the Belmont, he broke the record for 1 5/8 PULLING UP, as Turcotte galloped him out another furlong. He was never urged in that race, never lost form, rhythm. I pushed, record time cld've been what, 2:23+, 2:22+? Incredible.

My goodness, so much hot air all the way fm Australia. Are you aware that Secretariat sired Kingston Rule, whose record in the Melbourne Cup, your greatest race, still stands? No one admires Phar Lap more than I. But don't denigrate Secretariat or try to diminish his accomplishments in order to elevate Phar Lap. If Sec cld've run at 4 he cld've carried the proverbial refrigerator on his back. He beat Canadian horses on THEIR own turf, 1 5/8 mi in 35 deg weather, headwind, rain/flurries.

how can u say the triple crown is the greatest horse race?Its only for 3 years olds???Sec was a champion horse but i dont think any horse has done what Phar Lap did,,Phar Lap won 35 of his last 37 races,including beating the american horses on their on turf ,It was Phar Lap 1st race on dirt with a cracked hoof and his winter coat!!

You guys have got to be joking there are only 5 horses in the race in fact u cant even call it a race,its more of a Sunday stroll!!try racing in the Melbourne Cup 24 horses over 2miles thats a race,where u have to beat more horses and see how well your horse responds when the pressure is on!!
Like when they asked Eddie Arcavo who is the greatest Man o War or Secretariat Eddie said neither, Phar Lap was the greatest!!

secretariat was and will always be the greatest racing horse. no debate buddy. know any other horses who made it on time magazine? the triple crown is royalty. get an education

Hitler and Stalin were not great but they remain extremely memorable. stop trying to take away from the topic. how are american horses monkey's now? espn top 100 athletes of the 20th century has secretariat on the list. how did phar lap do? ask people who that is and few will even know.
