    that is actually the tabard a teutonic knight (very similar to a templar) they wear a black cross on a white background while Templars where a red cross on a white background. There is also another order of knights from the crusade era called the Hospitalers who wore white crosses on a black background. Hope this clarifies a thing or two :).
