Saw them twice. First time was supporting an up and coming Irish band called U2 at Friars, Aylesbury in Junbe 1981. We were outside the doors of the Maxwell Hall listening to Altered Images' soundcheck and they played this song about 6 times. That night they were unbelievable. Saw them at the same venue a year later headlining on the back of their chart success and although it was entertaining they had lost their spark. Like someone else said they were much better when they were a "Peel" band.

They were just caught up in the flow, and presumably didn't realise what crap if commercially successful music they were suddenly churning out. But at least they got some brilliant music out first. "Happy Birthday" is still one of my favourite albums; apart from that bloody awful title track !
I would have uploaded a couple more great songs from my old vinyl LP (my earlier uploads were before I had a USB turntable), but for some unknown reason the Copyright Gestapo stopped this.

Amazing. This must be their best song and I'm hearing it for the first time 30 years late!
If only they'd reverted to this musical direction rather than trying to be all new all new-romantic-after-the-event with songs like 'Bring Me Closer'.
Still, the benefit of hindsight & all that.

Record companies and money f*cked them. The usual story...

I saw them play this at the 100 club with my GF when they were still 'Peel' and really heavy - like ACDC with Shirley Temple on vocals. It was so packed at the front that the crowd bent forward and Claire walked around on everyone's backs and then they gently set her back down on stage - An amazing memory.
Great live band and Claire always commanded such respect, too.

I've just noticed your comment. A great description all round. AC/DC with Shirley Temple on vocals indeed !
