Ampeg BA-115 Demo

When I saw someone selling this amp, I went online to see some reviews and try and hear it on YouTube. I was surprised at how few videos there were of actual demos where you can clearly hear the speakers. Now that I'm trying it out for myself, I thought I'd mic it up for all to hear and hopefully it will influence whether or not you decide on one.

Here is a quick demo of the Ampeg BA-115 bass amp. I just purchased this second hand and decided to try it out in front of the camera. Bass recorded with a Shure SM57 mic connected directly to the Motu 828 MKII audio/digital converter using GarageBand. It sounds surprisingly rich through the SM57. I haven't even tried the direct out yet.

Looking at the reviews of this amp, a common complaint is the hiss that comes from the tweeter. As you can hear there is no hiss on this one. That is because I disconnected the tweeter, causes hisses bug me. :)

Sounds really nice, but are there any distortion settings on it?

@Troblivion Not really, but you can fiddle with the style knob and raise the volume and lower the master, to get a little breakup sound. But with this amp, better off putting a pedal in front of it.

@TheHansi15god Before buying this amp, I remember seeing a video with a Best Buy dude playing a shecter extreme 5 on it. Sounded nice. You must have received it by now. How do you like it?

@AllfatherOdhin Small gigs, or ones that have a good pa that you can output to, I think. It's more than loud enough for jamming in my little studio, but I haven't used it outside of here. It's a 100 watt bassamp, so if the band is loud expect to be a little buried in the music.
