3 minute video shot from the windows of the USA Amtrak California Zephyr as it climbs over the Rocky Mountains from Glenwood Springs, Colorado to Denver. Over 60 clips were edited and combined into this short, which is set to a Mozart piece highly adapted for the purpose. It's a travesty that America's passenger train system has been allowed to deteriorate to the point of being a national shame and safety hazard when compared to the modern and well-subsidized grade-separated train systems of Europe, Japan, and China, but this remnant 160-mile segment of the famed California Zephyr of the 1930's is still worth taking for its gorgeous scenery. Catch it before even this passenger service disappears into the mists of history!
Technical details: all footage was taken with a simple Nikon L18 still camera using the movie mode, edited on an Acer netbook (!) running Windows/XP using Windows Movie Maker 2.6 and rendered on the same little computer. Music was adapted from a piece by a Mozart piece as performed by the alumni symphony of St. Onouphrius College. All the work was done on the train before getting back to Chicago since the 110 V. AC outlets on the trained actually worked!
