Square have released Crystal Defenders: Vanguard Storm, the second in the series of Final Fantasy games to hit the iPhone. Available now for $4.99 you must position your units of Soldiers, Paladins, Mage's and Archers into various formations in order to prevent the monster hordes from breaking through your defences and stealing the crystals. You must use your characters abilities to ensure victory, for example White Mages can restore an injured ally's HP, while Bishops can increase a nearby unit's attack power.

  • did they just copy plants vs monsters?

  • A remix of "companions who surpassed their tribes", nice

  • There are a few, actually. Worms is out now, but if you want one more like Final Fantasy Tactics, you should get Reign of Swords 1&2. It's a turn base strategy with troops just like that, but it doesn't bring the same great looks charm and feel as did FF Tactics. I do as well hope that Enix makes Tactics for the iPhone.

  • Oh and I'm still waiting for a Final Fantasy Tactics on the iPhone/iPod Touch. That's one of my 3 favorite games of all time. I think turn-based strategy games like those suit the device perfectly. I don't know why there aren't any of those in the App Store. There should be as many TD games as turn-based strategy games. They play and handle almost similarly. However, I also applaud Square Enix for introducing this new kind of gameplay (Vanguard Storm).

  • Looks great. I tried out the lite version already. Very tempted in purchasing this game but I'll wait for some reviews and a full roster of the available jobs. So far I don't think there are any summoners. I think it would be cool if there were. I don't know how exactly they could be incorporated in the game. Either they summon a monster who occupies a space in the map, and then becomes available for use for a limited number of turns, or they could just do one-time attacks.
