This is an extremely rare clip of the Proclaimers performing live on The Tube on Jan 30 1987 - before they had a record contract!

This is actually the second of two songs performed. I couldn't get a copy of the first one, but someone has (finally!) posted it on YouTube. Click here to watch their first ever television performance performing Letter from America - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71rPh3DAYiA

  • wow! I remember this! I've been searching the net for someone hosting the Proclaimers' Tube performance .. I remember being amazed that two geeky guys who I'd never heard of could come out and be so mesmerising. Thanks for posting this video, would love to see LFA too if anyone has a copy on old vhs or betamax (remember those?). Thanks again!! :D

  • @snaphappy4967 : Please check the video description. Just this morning I found someone had posted their performance of Letter from America from this broadcast. I've added a link to that in the description.

  • Wow, this is fantastic, their debut on TV!!! And how did they manage to go through the 80's looking NORMAL?? (Look at the hostess, good grief) :-D Btw, "Craig and Charles" lol. An amazing performance, everybody had to be blown away. They did Letter From America too, right?

  • @twinkletwinkle72 - I believe they performed Letter earlier in the broadcast but I don't have a copy of that. Yet. TRIVIA: The hostess is Paula Yates. Wife of Bob Geldof of ten years, then had a relationship with INXS' Mike Hutchence. She died of a heroin overdose in 2000.

  • always loved the backups on this one.

  • right. so all you need to make absolutely brilliant music is a guitar and a couple of spectacled twins. good to know.

  • Is that Sean Ryder standing behind Paula thingggy ?

  • @themgnt WOW thankyou for that link. Both the TUBE vids are as powerful now as they were to a young me nearly 25 years ago. Quite brilliant. You've made my year! Thankyou :D

  • What a top clip - straight from my teens :D

It's funny, I was 16 at the time and definitely thought Paula was the *only* one looking normal. Especially in this clip. Gee, the boys have marvellous voices, great sense of rhythm and top tunes. But do they look like typical computer nerds or what? Hence loving them and their whole style even more!

  • @themgnt Thanks themgnt... Hope we can see the LFA performance some day :)
