Funnel cloud becomes rain wrapped as it develops into a tornado that causes damage near Rochester, Illinois on August 19 2009. Severe winds are later encountered near Effingham, IL. Video by Andrew Pritchard, PrairiestormMedia.Com
Imagine how the Native Americans felt when these types of storms descended upon them...no brick structures or basements to shelter in. I'll bet it sucked back in those days!
Was in a rain-wrapped tornado this afternoon at 630P. I had traveled to a town 30 miles north to check on some businesses. I did not realize what it was until I was close to it. Had to pull to back of local high-school, exit out passenger side door because I could not open driver's side door, and run to back of school where I held on to doorknob of gym. Took about 30-40 secs to pass. Was very weak but very scary, especially since I was alone. I'm still wet and shaken!!!
pretty sure this is right by my parents house. were you on the northbound lane of new city road? looking east towards dannenberger/chickenbristle roads?
We caught this tornado on the east side of Lake Springfield. With coming in on the rainy side, we were very close and almost drove into it. Really sucked to see all the damage. Helped clean up along East Lake Shore Drive with all the trees down. Wasn't a bad chasing day for just a slight risk. NWS classified this one as an EF-2 with an EF-3 near Williamsville
I was caught in this storm a bit outside of Jacksonville headed towards Beardstown between 2:15 and 2:30ish.. it was nasssty and we didn't even get the brunt of it. I feel horrible for the people who did...

That's crazy. The storm looks like a big mushroom cloud at the 1:29 mark. It's amazing how greenish blue the color inside the rain as well.
