Primary biliary cirrhosis, often abbreviated PBC, is an autoimmune disease of the liver[1] marked by the slow progressive destruction of the small bile ducts (bile canaliculi) within the liver. When these ducts are damaged, bile builds up in the liver (cholestasis) and over time damages the tissue. This can lead to scarring, fibrosis and cirrhosis.

Thank you. Quite informative for a disease I have had since 2008 and is suddenly causing major pain on right side, sort of under my rib cage. I'm glad I watched this because on Monday I'm going to a Univ. Health Ctr. Hepatology Dept. to begin the process towards biopsy. I'm very anxious to learn what stage my PBC is in and why I have so much pain. great reference material, the physician taught to a level that even a patient can easily understand. :)
