  • That is a standerd whistle of Japanese steam engine.

There are five rooms in inside. When The Whistle is blown,Those rooms play a chord. Some old engines have three rooms whistle.

  • Pretty good!

  • It's an American Style "chime" whistle, a five chime by the sound of it. Like oakleafpark said, there are five resonator chambers which make up the whistle, all different sizes (and thus, five different tones) which make a chord, in this case the chord of "F".

  • Here in the US, we identify whistles by the number of chimes it has. In America, we would call that the Japanese 5 chime, because I has 5 note. Then we'd call a 3 "roomed" whistle a Japanese 3 chime, because it has 3 chimes. Same goes for horns as well.
