    Hurt people hurt people

  • Note how all the visions of hell and death throughout this film are entirely man-made.

Religious myth is made reality at the hands of man, who invented it - along with its hells.

  • Svankmajer's version robs us of the Edgar Allen Poe 'happy ending.' Which was the 'real' ending for oh so many who lost their lives to the Spanish Inquisition, and other victims who continue to lose their lives to this day at the hands of murderous torturous regimes in various countries all over the world. For no other reason than sadistic oppression by greedy tyrants and sick sick sick torturers asserting their power over others.

  • The last quote is along the lines of, "What, my son? On the eve, perhaps, of salvation... you would leave us!"

  • I love it!

  • Now I see why the hope on the title!

  • amazing, just as i'd imagined it, this was always my favorite poe short story. i recommend Svankmajer's 'lunacy' to anyone who enjoyed this.

  • Awe sum.

    I'd never seen this. Thanks.

    ¡Viva Zazz!
