IN CONVERSATION : RICHARD HARRISON & BRIAN SEWELL
The Albemarle Gallery proudly presents the retrospective exhibition of paintings by Richard Harrison. The exhibition is entitled Nothing Wasted which is also the title of a new publication written by Brian Sewell. The book explores the relationship between the artist and author from the late 80s to present day and takes a look back at Harrisons extraordinary career to date. The lavishly illustrated monograph is priced at £27.50 and is available to purchase from Albemarle Gallery.
i can honestly say i do not have a clue what makes good art, and i object to the whole idea that one has to be educated in order to appreciate it. i was brought up on beethoven and mozart. there was no education in an intellectual sense whatsoever. i just loved them as soon as i was introduced to them. that is how art is for me. it is entirely visceral. the education process ought to comprise reintroducing oneself to the piece a number of times and seeing if it grows on one, and nothing more.

Brian Sewell is a cultured man and his accent reveals his refined personality. That's it.

He's a great old stick, Brian, when he's not trying to gratify the media ignorami with the catty side of his character. This shows him as a supportive and sensitive critic with a superb eye.
