Dance to the tropical drumbeat as images of Nepenthes flash by. These pitcher plants are native to Southeast Asia and were grown by nurseries in Hawaii and Oregon. This video is a compilation of photographs take by Jeff Dallas and Jacob Farin of Sarracenia Northwest.

  • Amazing!, I really loved the Nepenthes at 0:10! What's its name?

  • It's a hybrid called Nepenthes ventricosa x alata. You'll find it at many of the big chain hardware stores where it is mislabeled as Nepenthes 'Alata'.

  • The red one with the white rim? It´s N. albomarginata! Nice video!

  • Yes, it's the red form of N. albomarginata. Typically they're green. Thanks for watching the video!

  • @Shively1Kegler That's bull. Just because it isn't a part of YOUR norm, doesn't mean it is "savage."

  • im just picturing people dancing to the nepethes plants.

  • i dont know alot about these plants, but have you tried completely new seeds? It could just be genetics if you are using seeds from deformed plants

  • my nepenthe keeps growing deforemd pitchers!!! What am i doing wrong!!! the cap is always not grown properly!

  • Lovely !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome video!

  • The insects are lured by nector that is secreted though nector glands around the rim of the pitcher. The rim is very sllipery as well as the walls of the inside of the pitcher. When the bug falls in there is a liquid that is thick so hard to swim is and penatrates the bugs water proofing soak their lungs befor even going under wich its only amatter of time. Small rodents like rats or mice are also lured by the larger nepethes such as truncata or rajah. Frogs are lured by the bugs thay were lured.
